It's hard to believe that aluminium cans start off as a very thin sheet that is a part of an nine ton roll. I always believed that aluminum cans just came in the form of a can, I know that doesn't seem like much thinking but I had never thought of the production of aluminum cans before. I also didn't know aluminum was as recyclable as it is, even during the first part of production where the small disk of aluminum are cut out to form the cans the scraps are recycled and used again. Another interesting thing about the production of the cans is the way the body of the can is form from a lubricant that allows the aluminum to stretch but not tear. The water-based varnish is the most fascinating idea about the production of the cans because it acts a barrier between the soda and the aluminum. I now know that aluminum cans don't start out as just cans.
